madeline metcalfe

Madeline Metcalfe is a director and writer from Vancouver, BC, Canada, and is grateful to live and work within the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

After graduating with distinction from the University of Toronto, where she honours double majored in English and Cinema Studies, Madeline began working in documentary/unscripted television development, writing, and story editing, including as the Assistant Story Editor for the 3rd season of Mind Set Go (AMI).

Madeline's love of scripted storytelling and penchant for the spooky led her to independently write and direct her first short film, hysterria, between 2018 and 2020. hysterria went on to win Best Horror at the Toronto International Women Film Festival, and was an official selection of the Vancouver Independent Film Festival in 2021; as well as being named a semi-finalist for Renegade Film Festival 2022 and a quarter-finalist for Female Eye Film Festival 2021.

In late 2021 and early 2022, she worked alongside the distribution team for the award-winning feature film Dawn, Her Dad & The Tractor as their Print Traffic & Materials Coordinator, helping facilitate screenings across Canada and internationally. From March to October 2022, Madeline worked as the Post Production Coordinator for season 6 of Chesapeake Shores (Hallmark).

Madeline also has more than a decade of experience in graphic design and video editing (both self taught), and is an avid hobbyist painter and digital artist.

Additionally, she has worked for multiple federal elections with Elections Canada, and is fiercely passionate about political action, harm reduction, and mutual aid.

Madeline is also a proud and vocal member of the LGBTQ+ community, and is a vehement proponent of trans & queer rights and opportunities.
